Transportation is the process through which
people and goods are moved from one place to another. As civilizations
progressed, a need for trade grew. Also, by nature humans have an innate sense
of adventure, I need to know if there are other people like them living
elsewhere. This is evident even today as we search for life on different
planets. To fulfill these two needs, man developed the various means of
transport. Initiate the comma humans traveled from one place to another on
foot. Then, sledges came that were dragged along the ground. As agriculture
developed, man learned to use animals to carry loads and goods. With the help
of these, men learned the use of land transport. The next logical step was to
cross the water bodies. The greatest revolution in this field was the invention
of the wheel approximately 3500 years ago. After this, there was literally an
explosion in the invention of various means of transport.
Why is the invention of wheel revolutionary?
The invention of the wheel is one of the most important invention in the history of mankind. It was
first used in 3500 BC in Mesopotamia to aid Potter in his work.In 3200 BC,
weeks were used in Mesopotamia Chariots. Use of the wheel made transportation easier
and faster, thus reading to the development of trade. Apart from this, the
principle of the Weir is the basic principle used in many machines. From the
first potter’s wheel to steam engines, clocks and modern day automobiles and
computer disk drives, wheels drive them all.No doubt it is often considered as
one of the most revolutionary of all inventions. Between 2000 BC and 1500 BC,
the Egyptians, Indians and the Greeks improved upon the existing wheel. Spokes
were added to strengthen the wheels. The wheel is similar to a lever with the
rim being the place where the load acts and the axle being the fulcrum. Pulley is
another use of the wheel that made life easier for mankind. The first carts with wheels were made in
Mesopotamia. The Greeks and assyrians soon followed.
